Estació del Nord, Valencia
Binaural field recording from the Art Nouveau building Estació del Nord, or northern train station in Valencia, Spain.
Inaugurated in 1917, it became a protected listed monument in 1987 and is a working station to this day, while also being a reminder of how glamourous and luxurious train travel used to be.
This short binaural field recording displays some of the key sonic qualities of this visually rich space as interacted with by travellers daily. It is also a reflection on how a train station can be simultaneously intimate and cavernous, a space for intimacy and of wide open spaces.
